🌱 What is Child Theory Mapper?

Early childhood educators collect rich documentation every day — observation notes, children's words, photos of play. The hard part is what comes next: seeing the thinking inside the play, and turning a fleeting moment into documentation that serves children, teachers, and families.

Child Theory Mapper is a reflective partner for that work. It is grounded in play-based learning, pedagogical listening, emergent curriculum, Universal Design for Learning, and family–school collaboration.

How to use it

  1. Share a moment. Paste your observation notes, a child's words, or describe a photo. Rough notes are fine — this is a thinking space, not a form.
  2. Read the possibilities. You'll get tentative interpretations — “children may be exploring…” — never verdicts. Take what rings true, leave the rest.
  3. Choose an output. A theory map for your planning, a panel for your wall, a chronicle to keep, a note for families, or a plan for offering the experience back to the children.
  4. Revisit. Days or weeks later, hover a saved session and press ↩ to return to that thread with new observations. The map will show which ideas persist, which are new, and which are resting.
  5. Follow a child over time. Add a child in the sidebar and link observations to them. Their page gathers everything into a dashboard of where their thinking is alive, and can weave all observations into a whole-child report — a portrait with next-step planning, never an assessment.

What it will never do

It will not diagnose, label, rank, or score children; claim certainty about what a child knows or feels; reduce play to standards; or make assumptions about disability, culture, language, or family background. Children's dignity comes first.
